Summary
"Vikings were a robust and resilient people who inhabited Scandinavia, Denmark, and Iceland during the mid-medieval period. From shortly before 800 to shortly after 1000 CE, groups of them fairly regularly attacked the coasts of England, Ireland, France, and other sectors of western Europe. To the Norse, dishonorable, villainous characters, both real and mythical, were an unpleasant reality of life. Others included disease, old age, and growing enough food to sustain themselves in the cold, mountainous regions of extreme northern Europe"-- Provided by publisher.
