Summary
Zofo's name is shorthand for "20-Finger Orchestra" and they truly make use of the piano to emulate a brilliantly full orchestral sound. One of only a handful of duos worldwide devoted exclusively to piano duets, Zofo is blazing a bold new path for four-hands groups by focusing on contemporary repertoire and commissioning new works. Hear them perform two symphonic transcriptions, Beethoven's symphonies no. 4 and no. 6, with precision, technique, and spontaneity that will have you listening to both Beethoven's music and the piano itself in a new way. Program:; [0:12] Introduction to Beethoven/Scharwenka: Symphony no. 4 in B-flat major, op. 60; [2:11] I. Adagio--Allegro vivace; [12:12] II. Adagio; [22:07] III. Allegro vivace; [27:38] IV. Allegro ma non troppo [34:40] Introduction to Beethoven/Czerny: Symphony no. 6 in F major, op. 68; [36:22] I. Allegro ma non troppo (Awakening of cheerful feelings on reaching the countryside); [45:37] II. Andante molto moto (Scene by the brook); [58:00] III. Allegro (Joyous gathering of the country folk); [1:03:02] IV. Allegro (Thunderstorm); [1:06:54] V. Allegretto (Shepherd's Song. Happy and thankful feelings after the storm)
